Description:
PART ONE: Eating Disorders: What, Who, Why, and How (2 hours): Eating disorders are becoming increasingly better understood by our society. However, many are not fully aware of the prevalence, seriousness, and the range of individuals affected by this illness. The purpose of the first half of this workshop is to identify causes, signs, effects, and treatment options for eating disorders, from the perspective of individuals who are struggling as well as their loved ones and treatment providers; Overview of all of the eating disorders including ARFID and BED, diagnostic criteria to understand the differences, neurobiology, statistics, different populations, etiology, screening, what to look for and how to approach the need for ED treatment, particularly among specific populations like in folks with ED and SUD.
PART TWO: After the Assessment/Levels of Care/What to Expect in Treatment: In the second half, we will delve into the crucial topic of eating disorder treatment levels, particularly their significance when engaging with clients in an outpatient setting. How do you know when it’s time to refer for an assessment or a higher level of care? What are the most effective methods of recommending care levels to families and individuals to underscore the importance of treatment as you acknowledge the related interruption to usual life schedules? How do families know what to expect at any given level of care? What levels of care does insurance cover? What kind of transition supports do clinicians and families need to flow as successfully as possible between levels of care? These and other questions will be addressed to help equip providers and clinicians, particularly those in outpatient settings, with the tools they need to support their critical work. Making the decision to move forward with eating disorder treatment is no small feat, likely there have been many conversations and countless considerations both personal and practical on whether this is the right time for you as an individual/parent contemplating care or for providers referring a client to take this step. Our clients tell us that eating disorder treatment is daunting for those considering it and also potentially daunting for those recommending it to clients due to the many aspects of treatment, details of admission and realities of the eating disorder experience. This presentation's aim is to provide insights into "what treatment is really like" and also offer helpful overviews & key details into the day-to-day schedule, differences in levels of care, influences on length of care and what to expect from your eating disorder treatment experience.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to...
