Play Therapy and Other Healing Strategies for Working with Children Recovering from Abuse

Are you a therapist teetering on exhaustion?  Working with children requires energy, endurance and flexibility.  This training will energize you with energy management techniques and new strategies for successfully treating children who have experienced trauma.

With children, toys are their tools and play is their language.  Participants will enter a child’s world of play and strengthen their fluency in the language of play therapy.  Participants will expand their menu of creative, effective interventions with children and parents.  This interactive workshop will include videos, applying case examples, and small group discussion.

• The latest research on the neuroscience of trauma and how it applies to therapy with kids.
• Techniques for engaging parents and kids in family session.

About the Presenter:

Kelli R. Underwood, LCSW is a seasoned speaker, consultant and psychotherapist. A psychotherapist in the field of trauma since 1996, Kelli has a vast understanding of the struggles people encounter as well as the resiliency of the human spirit. As a therapist, she is skillful at facilitating change and healing. As an experienced teacher, Kelli is gifted at teaching people how to make the changes they desire. Her enthusiasm, humor and knowledge consistently earn her rave reviews.

Kelli received a Master’s degree in Social Work from Indiana University in 1996. She was a psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor at the Center for Contextual Change in Chicago, a nationally renowned trauma treatment center, for fifteen years. At the C.C.C., she was the Director of Child and Family Programs, supervised clinicians, consulted with area residential facilities, agencies, and schools and provided numerous trainings in her areas of expertise. Kelli trains and supervises clinicians treating youth, adults, and families who have experienced trauma. She provides one-time consultations on challenging situations and ongoing consultations to schools, residential treatment facilities, other practitioners, organizations and corporations.
