Neurodivergence: What We Make of Brain and Behavior Differences
Presented by: Angela Marx, Ph.D., Place of Mind, LLC.

Workshop Description: How do we identify and support brain and behavior differences and disabilities?   How can we focus on the things that really matter for each person and make sure that we are not contributing to their distress?   How do we promote health, well-being, and inclusive support to individuals who all think and act in unique ways?

Take the opportunity to explore these questions through the lens of neurodiversity. Neurodiversity, the biological fact that all human brains are different, is critical to consider when providing inclusive supports that promote the heath & wellness of disabled individuals. This session will explore outdated beliefs and practices and introduce updated considerations, research, and practice modifications for supporting brain and behavioral differences and visible and invisible disabilities.

Learning Objectives:

1. Explore the intersection between mental, behavioral, and disability health
2. Understand neurodiversity and the importance of brain and body differences in promoting health and wellness
3. Learn how to provide inclusive individualized support through accommodations and practice modifications
4. Discover how our own perceptions shape how we view and interact with others to begin rethinking and reinvesting energy in neurodiversity affirmative practices
