Ethics & Boundaries: What Does It Mean to Be a Leader Today?

Description: This webinar will help leaders understand and support the new workforce using the code of ethics for supervisors and exploring how emotional intelligence can help build relationships with incoming employees in a constantly changing diverse labor pool. We will explore the impact of COVID on incoming staff, generational differences and misunderstandings, the importance of self-awareness and positive communication as a leader, and mental health awareness in the workplace. 

Learning Objectives: At the end of this training, participants will be able to...
  • Employ effective strategies to support recent graduates who may have gaps in skills due to the impact of COVID on their education and training. 

  • Identify and accommodate generational differences and misunderstandings in the workplace when supervising and training incoming staff. 

  • Use the code of ethics to model effective leadership and maintain a productive inclusive work environment for all employees to maintain job retention. 

  • List the five characteristics of emotional intelligence to become better communicators and diffuse conflict. 

  • Discuss the importance of mental health awareness in the workplace and what resources are available to support employees as well as leaders. 

Presenter Information: Crystal D. Carter MSW, LCSW is a Milwaukee native. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a Master of Arts in Social Welfare at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

She is currently Associate Clinical Professor/Field Liaison at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare. In this role, she is responsible for teaching field seminars and overseeing field placements for master-level students in community based-mental health and substance abuse treatment programs, outpatient clinics, and veteran’s services. She is also an Ad Hoc Instructor for the School of Continuing Education at UW-Milwaukee. Lastly, she is the President of Dean’s Clinical Solutions, LLC, which provides training workshops, consultation, clinical supervision, and assessments, among other services.

She has worked as a social worker for many years and has a vast amount of experience in academia and in both direct and macro social work and clinical practice. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and as a psychotherapist, she has provided therapy in community agencies, Milwaukee Public Charter Schools, and hospital settings. As a therapist, she has provided counseling to individuals, families, groups, and couples. Crystal’s specialty is mental health and African Americans with an emphasis on black women. She is currently an independent contractor as a Clinical therapist at Nova Mental Services. Her passion continues to be serving and educating the community.
