Workshop De scription: Do you know me? How can I trust that you are someone t hat understands me, including my culture, and will speak to the needs of di versity when asked? This training will focus on the importance of understa nding and validating cultural differences including race, gender, and sexua l orientation in order to build effective alliances. Use of a group discuss ions, vignettes, and personal reflection will foster understanding of ethic al, reflective practice with clients. This hands-on training will enable th e learner to explore personal diversity and assess skill level in cultural humility, while increasing knowledge of diverse cultures. Participants wil l develop strategies to communicate, confront, and use appropriate terms to alleviate/solve the vignette situations provided.

Dana Johnson, MSW, LAPSW< /strong>, holds a Masters of Social Work degree and licensed to practice so cial work in the State of Wisconsin. He has over 10 years of direct practic e experience; particularly in the area of child welfare, supervision, agenc y and culture change, and administration. His areas of expertise and intere st include leadership development, innovation theory, child welfare service s and reform, ethics and boundaries, trauma-informed care, LGBTQ+ and diver sity, and supervision in social work. Mr. Johnson is the owner and lead tr ainer of Grow My Life, LLC.
