Category: WAFCA CE Training
Registration for this event will open in March.
Decolonizing Therapy and Introduction to Brainspotting Presented by Regina Guthrie Faridnia, MSW, LCSW, PhD, SEP
*Up to 4 CE credits will be issued to those attending this virtual opportunity. Details: May 14, 2026 (10:00am - 2:30pm) via Zoom (includes 30-minute lunch break)
Description: This workshop will discuss themes of how to follow the process of the individual who comes into the therapy office in a way that is more anti-oppressive and decolonizing. Although therapists and many helpers have been trained in the traditional psychotherapy models, this approach incorporates a different way to work that can be more culturally resonant and compatible for those coming from historically underserved and oppressed communities. Brainspotting, which falls under the Neuroexperiential Model, allows the process to be led by the client/participant, rather than by the helper/therapist. We are able to let go of protocols and allow the person's own internal healing mechanisms to guide the process and provide the healing. An eye position is located, and unresolved trauma is allowed to move through while the therapist/helper stays highly attuned and present. This process allows for deep healing, which naturally resonates with many ways of knowing. As healing is fostered, those who suffer can begin to heal the wounds that formerly separated them from family and community.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to...
- Define some basic components of Brainspotting
- Discuss how Brainspotting can be applied to Trauma & Dissociation
- Recognize how to work from a historical and intergenerational trauma-informed lens
Presenter Information: Regina Guthrie Faridnia, LCSW is the primary therapist/clinician at Indigena Counseling & Wellness Center. Regina earned her MSW in 1997 at the University of Washington. In 1999, she became an LCSW in Louisiana and in 2010, she obtained her LCSW in California. In 2024, she received a Doctorate and PhD in Integrative Medicine. Regina is originally from Louisiana and is a member of the United Houma Nation tribe. In her spare time, she participates in hula and her local native community.
Regina is available to provide somatic psychotherapy, consultation, Brainspotting training and also has a wellness oriented practice. Somatic approaches allow the brain and nervous system to process issues and move towards regulation without necessarily needing for talk to occur. What this means is that neuroscience and brain-based techniques will be integrated into the work. Regina is a SEP (Somatic Experiencing Practitioner) and a Brainspotting Trainer/Consultant. She is also trained in NADA Protocol/Acudetox. This is a type of acupuncture for the ear, which is also called Auriculotherapy.
