Health and Wholeness for Givers of Care: The Path Back Home To Ourselves
Presented by Anita Mandley, MS, LCPC

*Up to 4 CE credits will be issued to those attending this virtual opportunity.
Details: December 5 (10:00am - 2:30pm, including a 30-minute lunch break)

Description: This workshop looks at how caring for others within the power structures of our jobs can change and deplete us. It can also lead us to suppress or shut down parts of ourselves to advance, or even just survive in the workplace. When we are depleted it not only impacts our performance at work, but also how we engage with our families and friends, and in our communities. Issues around caring for ourselves within structures of power, including our jobs, are complex. We will have a conversation about what we carry from our personal and intergenerational histories. So many people who support and care for others also have histories of significant adversity, which can increase their vulnerability to burn-out, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma. Often there are high levels of responsibility coupled with a lack of power and a lack of permission for self-care. We will look at how we can find and honor our limits and boundaries.  The intention of this workshop is to provide a path towards the restoration of wholeness, health, and vitality.

Learning Objectives: Participants will learn...
  • How to recognize the physical and emotional symptoms of compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma.
  • How a personal and intergenerational history of adversity increases their vulnerability to compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma.
  • How power structures invalidate and interfere with their ability to care for themselves.
  • How to develop a plan for the restoration and maintenance of emotional, physical, and relational health.
